Each Lent we share a number of daily devotional reflections or educational opportunities that parishioners may enjoy engaging with as opportunities to deepen their journey through the season. This year we again have some familliar and some new suggestions for you to consider.
Lenten Holden Evening Prayer
Once again this year, the Parish of the Valley is partnering with St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, Pembroke to hold Sung Evening Prayer during the season of Lent.
Beginning on Wednesday, February 25th at 7pm at St. Timothy's (503 Alfred Street, Pembroke) and continuing through until March 25th, these will be a wonderful contemplative opportunity to gather during this season. The first two weeks will be services of Sung Lutheran Evening Prayer, and the last three will be Holden Evening Prayer. The Parish of the Valley Clergy Team and Pastor Bruce Thompson from St. Timothy's will be sharing in the leadership of each service.
All are welcome and invited for prayer and we share in fellowship and refreshments after the service.
Alongside Hope (PWRDF) for Lent
Alongside Hope’s Lenten resource, Taking the Wild Paths of Peace, written by Martha Jarvis, explores the unexpected hope of peacemaking at time of conflict in the world and in our personal lives. As the Anglican Communion’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Jarvis works to create partnerships between churches and UN teams as they respond to conflict, climate change and forced movement of people. She has also facilitated church-led peacemaking in South Sudan and Mozambique. Throughout it all, she’s seen nothing that compares to the power of people coming back together after conflict, and ultimately, coming back to faith through Jesus.
This resource will be available for download or subscribe to receive it as a free daily email message throughout Lent, beginning on Ash Wednesday, February 18, 2026: https://alongsidehope.org/Lent2026/.

The Archbishop of Canterbury’s Lent Book
Each year, the Archbishop of Canterbury commissions a book for the season of Lent. This year’s book, Dancing to the Heartbeat of God, brings together around thirty contributors from around the Anglican Communion, including the Anglican Church of Canada’s Archbishop Shane Parker, Archbishop Anne Germond, Bishop Riscylla Shaw, Bishop Annie Ittoshat, and Bishop Helen Kennedy.
Through personal stories, testimonies, and reflections, the book explores what it really means to follow Christ faithfully: listening for God's rhythm, responding with courage, and sharing faith with others in authentic and creative ways. Rooted in real experience rather than abstract theory, these voices speak with honesty, energy, and hope.
The book can be purchased as an eBook or ordered online from wherever you purchase books.
Lent Madness is a fun and interactive daily Lenten practice where we learn about the different people listed in the Church Calendar of Saints. It is in the format of a tournament-style elimination bracket and each day you can vote for one of the profiled saints. You can read about the saints each day on their website here, or on their Facebook page. Read and learn and then join in the voting and see which saint will be crowned with the Golden Halo!
