Instead of reading grand scriptures of the glory and splendor of Jesus enthroned in the heavens, on Reign of Christ Sunday we are reminded of the nature of God's kingdom by reading the story of the crucifixion. God's kingdom is an upside-down kingdom where the first are last and the last first, where the good news is for the poor and those being oppressed, where the path to glory is to follow the road to the cross. In being reminded of the nature of God's kingdom, we are invited to participate in bringing it into being today and every day until Christ comes again.
