Remembering Mike Sibley

Remembering Mike Sibley

October 17, 1955 - November 8, 2020

We are saddened this week to share news of the passing of Mike Sibley, former Rector's Warden of Holy Trinity Pembroke and Lay Member of Diocesan Synod. Mike was a well known and beloved member of our Valley Anglican community for many years and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Due to COVID-19 a private funeral service with a limited number of guests is being organized at Holy Trinity Pembroke. Serving and retired military members attending the funeral are invited to please wear your medals. Rev. Matthew will preside at the service and the Venerable Rob Davis will preach. A video of the liturgy will be made available after the service so that everyone might have a chance to celebrate Mike's ministry and say goodbye. We ask you to please keep Mike's wife Lorna, one of our parish's Lay Readers in Training, in your thoughts and prayers.

Please Bring Non-Perishable Foods With You to Church

One of the ministries that Mike Sibley proudly gave leadership to at Holy Trinity Pembroke was regular support for local foodbanks. The Parish of the Valley will be holding our next Food Bank Sunday on Sunday, November 22nd as we celebrate the Reign of Christ. Please bring gifts of non-perishable food items as well as cash donations with you to worship on that day. These will be donated by our parish to support the work of food banks in each of our local communities. You can learn more about our parish's commitment to supporting food security throughout the valley by clicking on the blue button below.

St. George's South Alice Featured in Algonquin College Video

The story of Private Archie Roy Graham, who was killed in action in France near the end of the First World War and who is memorialized at St. George's South Alice, was featured this week in the Remembrance Day service for Algonquin College's Pembroke Waterfront Campus. Our sincere thanks to Jamie Bramburger, Manager of Student and Community Affairs at Algonquin, for sharing this important part of our parish's history with members of our wider community, and especially with students at Algonquin College. Private Graham's story was also featured this week in the Pembroke Observer & News. You can watch a video of the Remembrance Day service from Algonquin College's Pembroke Waterfront Campus by clicking below.

Workshops for Bereaved Military Families

Having just marked Remembrance Day we are all mindful of the innumerable sacrifices made for us by members of the Canadian Armed Forces and their loved ones. Captain the Reverend Michel Gagné, one of our parish's former Assistant Curates, recently brought to our attention a program being offered in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Chaplain Service. The HOPE program offers online workshops for military families, past and present, who are coping with grief and loss. The next worshop is on Thursday, December 10th at 7pm via Zoom and will focus on "Coping with the Holidays." For more information or to register please call 1-800-883-6094 or email HOPE-ESPOIR@forces.gc.ca. The registration deadline is November 26th.
