Sovereign's Medal, Special Vestry, Cemetery Services, and more

Parish of the Valley
Parish of the Valley Newsletter for July 11, 2025
Congratulations Canon Roger Steinke!

Congratulations Canon Roger Steinke!

Congratulations to one of our retired clergy and Honorary Assistants, the Rev. Canon Roger Steinke, for being awarded The Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers.

This medal, part of the Canadian honours system, is awarded by the Governor General in the name of the King to individuals who have offered exceptional volunteer commitment to their local communities over an extended period of time. The Rideau Hall website states that medal recipients, "Embody the caring country we aspire to build."

Canon Roger was nominated for this medal by members of our parish in recognition of his faithful and sustained volunteer services to our Anglican Church of Canada as a retired priest, and for his volunteer service within the Kiwanis Club of Pembroke, notably in helping to ensure the continuation of the Christmas Hamper program following the abrupt closure of the Pembroke Salvation Army in 2019.

While Canon Roger has requested not to have a public presentation of his medal, it has now arrived, and so we wanted to take a moment as a parish community to honour Canon Roger's receipt of this award, and to thank him for his many years of dedicated volunteer service to our local communities. Congratulations Roger! The Parish of the Valley is incredibly proud to count you as one of our own.
