Annual Vestry Meetings
In accordance with the Canons, Bylaws and Regulations of the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa, annual Vestry meetings will be held for the congregations of the Parish of the Valley immediately following worship on the following dates and times:
A Vestry serves as the governing body of a congregation and is accountable to our diocesan synod. All members of a congregation age 16 and over who are prepared to sign a solemn declaration are eligible to vote. In addition to reviewing financial statements, adopting annual budgets, and appointing and electing officers, Vestry meetings are an important opportunity to reflect on the work that God has been doing in our midst, and to prayerful discern where God is leading us next. We look forward to seeing you at Vestry! |

Lenten LearningPlease Send Us Your Questions! This year the Parish of the Valley clergy team will be leading a Lenten Learning series on Thursday evenings at 7pm on Zoom, beginning on March 2nd. Rather than studying a particular book or a portion of holy scripture, this year your clergy team would like for you, the members of the Parish of the Valley, to help us plan our parish's Lenten study. What questions do you have about the Bible, the Church, or being a Christian in general? Are there aspects of how we worship as Anglicans that you would like to learn more about? Do you have questions about who God is, and what we believe as people of faith? Lent is a time to truly dig deep in understanding our faith and even wrestle with some of its more difficult or uncomfortable parts and how they find a place in our lives. So don't be shy, or afraid, to ask those questions which are most deeply in your hearts or most frustratingly on your mind! We invite you to send your questions by Ash Wednesday, February 22nd, to Rev. Nick: nickforte@valleyanglicans.ca. Rev. Nick will then compile your questions (anonymously) and members of the clergy team will take turns leading us in discussions about the questions in each of the Thursday night Zoom sessions. We may not be able to answer every question, but hopefully each of our Lenten journeys will be made richer by the conversation! |

Holden Evening PrayerBeginning Wednesday March 1st St Timothy's Lutheran Church in Pembroke invites all members of the Parish of the Valley to join them for Holden Evening Prayer at 7pm on Wednesday evenings during the season of Lent, beginning March 1st. Holden Evening Prayer is a musical setting of evening prayer written by Marty Haugan. You can watch an example by clicking here. This lovely setting of vespers follows the traditional form while using contemporary and inclusive language. Rev. Matthew and Rev. Nick will be sharing in the leadership of a few of these evening liturgies, together with Pastor Bruce Thompson from St Timothy's. We pray these short services will be an opportunity for many of us to stay centred in prayer as we make our annual Lenten pilgrimage. St Timothy's can be found at 503 Alfred St, Pembroke. |

Impact Zambia
Rev. Allan Studd is one of our parish's Honourary Assistant clergy. In addition to being a retired priest, Allan is a Psychotherapist with a specialty in couples and families and is also part of a short term missionary team called Impact Zambia. The project is part of International Teams Canada. The project partners with a Christian community in Itezh-tezhi, central Zambia, and seeks to raise people out of poverty by teaching them marketable skills. The project has built the Life Impact Training Centre from which to teach these skills, and has also launched a four year diploma course in Marriage and Family Counselling. Unfortunately, International Teams Canada had to stop all travel to Zambia due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the COVID situation now improving, Rev. Allan plans to travel back to Zambia this summer for the first time in a number of years. It takes about $6,000 to finance the cost of a three week long teaching trip, and Rev. Allan would be grateful for any support that might be offered by fellow members of the Parish of the Valley towards this very worthwhile outreach ministry. In the coming weeks Rev. Allan will be sharing stories about his work with Impact Zambia as a guest preacher across the Parish of the Valley. In the mean time, if you would like to support Rev. Allan's upcoming trip, you can do so by clicking on the blue donation button below. Please be sure to select Allan's name from the team-member menu. If you prefer to give by mail, cheques made out to "International Teams Canada" with "Impact Zambia - Rev. Allan Studd" marked clearly in the memo line may be mailed to: iTeams Canada, 1 Union Street, Elmira, Ontario, N3B 3J9. Internationa Teams Canada is a registered charity and all funds received are eligible for an income tax receipt. For more infomation visit:
