Holy Week & Easter in the Parish of the Valley

Holy Week & Easter in the Parish of the Valley

The Paschal Triduum or Easter Triduum is the period of three days that begins with the liturgy on the evening of Maundy Thursday, and reaches its high point in the Easter Vigil, concluding with Easter Sunday services.

The liturgies of the Triduum, from Maundy Thursday to Good Friday to the Easter Vigil are all considered one continuous liturgy, each one leading to the next.

So we encourage you to consider attending, in person or online, as many of the services as you are able.

"On this very night..." - On Maundy Thursday, this evening, we gather at 7pm at both Holy Trinity Pembroke and at St. John's Eganville for the washing of feet and Holy Eucharist.

Tomorrow, on Good Friday, we gather across our parish for Good Friday services as we meditate on the cross and death of Jesus:

  • 9am - St. Anthony’s Whitney
  • 10am - St. John’s Eganville followed at 12:30 by an Ecumenical Way of the Cross procession beginning at St. James the Less Catholic Church
  • 11am - St. George’s South Alice
  • 11am - St. Paul's Cobden
  • 11am - Epiphany Barry’s Bay
  • 1pm - All Saints Petawawa
  • 3pm - Holy Trinity Pembroke
  • 3pm - Ascension Killaloe

On Saturday Evening, we gather from across our Deanery of the Northwest for the Easter Vigil - 7:30pm at Holy Trinity Pembroke. The service begins outside on the lawn with kindling the new Easter fire. The light is then processed into the church. We will have the first eucharist of Easter and will be celebrating Holy Baptism at this service as we come together as Anglicans from all across the Valley. There will be candles, bells, chanting, and incence: it is a beautiful and moving service.

On Easter Sunday, we gather in our local congregations to share in the joy of the resurrection together all across the Parish of the Valley. Services of Holy Eucharist will be held at:

  • 8am - Holy Trinity Pembroke
  • 9am - St. Thomas Rankin
  • 9am - Ascension, Killaloe
  • 9am - St. Anthony’s Whitney
  • 9:30am - St. George’s South Alice
  • 10am - Holy Trinity Pembroke
  • 11am - St. Paul’s Cobden
  • 11am - St. John’s Eganville
  • 11am - Epiphany Barry’s Bay
  • 11:15am - All Saints Petawawa

Please join in as many Holy Week services as you are able. If you are unable to be present in person, you can join in the livestreams from Holy Trinity Pembroke at the link below (and also available afterwards as recordings).

Upcoming Partner Visit with Kenneth Kasule

We are still looking for some hosts for when Kenneth Kasule from Wide Smiles for All Through Education in Uganda is visiting with us in the Parish of the Valley.

Kenneth will be with us from April 25 through June 20. In addition to a number of speaking visits across our Parish and opportunities to join in fellowship and hear Kenneth speak about his work for children's eduation in Uganda, we are looking for households willing to host Kenneth as a guest in your home.

While he is with you, we hope that you will be able to offer him meals and fellowship, perhaps some sight-seeing in your area, bringing him to church if he is with you over a Sunday, making connection with the next host, and offering the opportunity to do laundry etc. as needed.

To learn more about hosting Kenneth, including finding out exact dates where we still need hosts, and to sign up for a period of time as a host, please contact Carol Clark of St. John’s Eganville at 613-625-2755. Thank you for considering this ministry of hospitality as we welcome Kenneth to our parish community.
