Ash Wednesday Services
Lent is a time to prepare for the celebration of Easter and the renewal of our lives. We begin this season of preparation by remembering our need for repentence with the sign of ashes - an ancient sign speaking of the frailty and uncertainty of human life, and marking the penetince of the community as a whole. We are invited to observe a holy Lent by self-examination, penitence, prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, and by reading and meditating on the Word of God. We begin that journey with Ash Wednesday. There will be nine Ash Wednesday services across the Parish from Whitney to Cobden to Petawawa and points in between. Please read more to find a service time and location that works for you. Ash Wednesday services are also all listed in this Sunday's Valley Bulletin. For more infomation visit: http://valleyanglicans.ca/events/ash-wednesday-services--137/2020-02-26

Lenten DevotionsDigital Resources Looking for other ways to deepen or encourage our Lenten Journey? Here are a number of other digital resources that you can follow on social media or have delivered to your email inbox daily and weekly throughout Lent: The Primate's World Relief and Development Fund's "Listen to the Lenten Gospels" Beginning on Ash Wednesday and continuing each Sunday to Easter, you will receive an email with an audio recording of the day’s Gospel and an audio reflection responding to the Gospel by Archbishop Linda Nicholls and six other friends of PWRDF. (Written texts will also be provided.) On each of the following three days, you will receive emails inviting you to listen to the reading again and enter into your own time of reflection using Gospel-based Discipleship, the practice developed by the Anglican Church of Canada’s Indigenous Ministries. This practice asks you to identify how the words speak to you, and what Jesus (the Gospel) calls you to do. Finally, we will invite you to read how PWRDF responds to the Gospel message through our projects and partners. Read more and sign up for emails here. Lent Madness Learn more about the saints and historical figures of our church history and have fun doing it! Each weekday in Lent, two saints will be introduced and readers given the chance to vote to send one onwards to the next round. At the end of Lent, one saint will be crowned with the "Golden Halo." Learn more about Lent Madness from their website. Follow Lent Madness on Facebook for daily posts about the saints of the day. Signs of Life 2020 (SSJE) This free 5-week offering encourages individuals and groups to explore the riches of our worship traditions, liturgy and sacraments, and the art and architecture of our worship spaces, revealing the full meaning of these signs, deepening our experience of Christian vocation and guiding us toward ongoing conversion. This program was designed and produced by the Society of Saint John the Evangelist, a religious order for men in the Episcopal Church, and by Lifelong Learning at Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia. Sign up for their emails here. Living Well Through Lent 2020: Practicing Courage with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind Living Compass, an Episcopal formation resource, offers a variety of ways to engage with them through Lent.
