Diocesan Book StudyAn Altar in the World by Barbara Brown Taylor Our next Diocesan Collaborative Book Study will be online starting on September 22nd. The book will be An Altar in the World: A Geography of Faith by Barbara Brown Taylor. You can order it from Chapters Indigo or Amazon. This study will be every Wednesday evening at 7 – 8:15 pm from September 22 to October 27 via Zoom. Please contact the Rev. Canon Susan Clifford if you are planning to attend and she will make sure you are connected with the diocesan group. Barbara Brown Taylor is an Episcopal Priest and Professor of Theology. She lives on a working farm with her husband in rural Georgia. An Altar in the World is a beautifully written book helping us discover the sacred in the small things we do and see every day of our life. From the Introduction: "I have no idea what you will see when you look at your life--but if you are tired of arguing about religion, tired of reading about spirituality, tired of talk-talk-talking about things that matter without doing a single thing that matters yourself, then the pages that follow are dedicated to you. My hope is that reading them will help you recognize ... some of the altars in this world--ordinary-looking places where human beings have met and may continue to meet up with the divine..." |
Happenings Around the ParishOutreach from St Augustine's, Beachburg Upon receipt of an unexpected donation to the church, the congregation of St. Augustine's Beachburg decided to use a portion of the funds they received to support outreach initiatives across Renfrew County. Four local charities, including The Grind, the Renfrew County Child Poverty Action Network (C-PAN), the Cobden Food Bank and the ConnectWell Seniors Program will all be receiving a donation of $100 from St. Augustine's accompanied by a letter which reads, in part: "In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus tells his followers, 'Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also' (Matthew 6: 21). It is our hope and prayer that this small token of our support will help you to know that our congregation in Beachburg is grateful for your services to our wider community, and especially to those who are in need. On behalf of our church community, thank you for everything that you do!" The congregation is Beachburg will also be using a portion of the funds they received to complete much needed renovations to an older bathroom in their church hall, converting it permanently to a new storage room. Well done St. Augustine's! |
